To combat tax evasion, FIRS works with security agencies.

To improve cooperation on revenue protection, tax enforcement, and national security, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has organized a security and stakeholder engagement with important law enforcement authorities in Lagos. Senior officers from the Nigeria Police Force, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Force Special Fraud Unit (SFU), and other organizations engaged in financial and criminal investigations attended the meeting, which was arranged by the FIRS Special Enforcement Division. In his welcome speech, CSP Bakfur Kyes, head of the Special Enforcement Division, stated that the parley was intended to strengthen operational cooperation across agencies as Nigeria gets ready to execute the National Revenue Service Act on January 1, 2026. According to him, tax collection and security are related duties that call for a coordinated strategy.He added, “As we get ready to enact the new National Revenue Service Act, it is crucial that we forge stronger alliances among all stakeholders to ensure seamless implementation and boost national revenue for the common good. We gather today in recognition that security is everyone’s business and so is revenue collection.” Kyes described the job of the Special Enforcement Division, pointing out that it investigates situations that jeopardize the integrity of the tax system and safeguards FIRS sites around the country.
