Tolanibaj advises Afrobeats legends to retire and stop diluting their brand with subpar music

Tolanibaj, a disc jockey and reality TV figure, has called on Afrobeats icons who feel creatively spent to think about retirement. She stated that retirement is nothing to be embarrassed about and that they should refrain from diluting their brands with subpar music, as they are currently doing. Her call comes in the wake of widespread backlash against the latest releases from Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, particularly among rival fans online. In a video posted on her TikTok account, Tolanibaj asked, “Why is it that Nigerian artists don’t know when to evolve or completely transition into business?

I feel like if your sound no longer resonates with your fans or your audience, [you should] go into business. If you have built an amazing legacy, why do you constantly allow the disrespect of being compared to the new generational artists? What’s wrong with becoming a music executive where you shine light on the new generational artists and become a boss?

Olamide and Don Jazzy exemplify the figures OG artists should embody. Cease permitting others to treat you with disrespect. There are a lot of artists on this table. Please do a better job. Retiring is nothing to be ashamed of. Cease the release of frivolous music that dilutes your brand, particularly given your past A1 catalog. It would be better if you didn’t drop music at all and just became a lifestyle influencer.
