Tolu Arokodare and Raphael Onyedika, both of the Super Eagles, have received nominations for the Ebony Boot, awarded to the top African player in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.

In addition to Arokodare and Onyedika, the nominations feature Union Saint-Gilloise’s Nigerian-born forward, Promise David; Noah Sadki, an international player from Congo; as well as the Moroccan winger Zakaria El Ouahdi.
Arokodare of Genk has distinguished himself this season, currently sitting among the league’s leading scorers with an impressive 20 goals. His ability to score goals has been crucial for Genk’s ambitions, aiding their efforts to secure the league title.
Onyedika, a player for Club Brugge, has also been vital to his team’s achievements, aiding their advancement to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and underscoring his role as an essential contributor in a fierce competition.
The awards ceremony is planned for May 12 and will be determined by a jury made up of head coaches from league clubs, Belgium’s national team manager, respected sports journalists, and one or more honorary jurors.
If either Arokodare or Onyedika takes home the Ebony Boot, they will be joining the ranks of esteemed Nigerian footballers who have won this award in the past, including legends like Daniel Amokachi, Victor Ikpeba, Godwin Okpara, Celestine Babayaro, and Paul Onuachu.
Established in 1992, the award boasts a rich history. While Nigerian players won the first five editions, there was a significant gap until Onuachu revived that legacy by winning it in 2021.
