Dr. Henry Ogbonna, the chief medical director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) in Fortune Tenedam, has been charged by a retired nurse of destroying an apartment she was occupying at the nurses’ quarters in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Tenedam claimed in a widely shared video that even though the hospital had not paid her retirement payments for more than five years, the CMD had ordered the destruction of her home.
She said that the reason she was still residing in the building was because her entitlements had not been paid, leaving her in a precarious financial situation and unable to find other housing.
The flat’s roof had been partially removed in the footage that the Daily Post was able to view, but the contents of the unit were still there.
The man who took the now-viral video said that the retired nurse who had attended church on Sunday was not present when the UPTH management performed the deroofing.
The management of UPTH has stated that Tenedam is not an employee of the hospital and that the facility never formally assigned him housing.
The hospital revealed that the issue has been officially reported to the police in a statement signed by Elabha Alexandra Meni, Head of Corporate Affairs and Public Relations.
According to the statement, the apartment in question was allegedly deroofed and vandalized by Tenedam prior to her departure, despite several written notices from the hospital requesting her to vacate the premises.
The management further alleged that Tenedam accommodated individuals of questionable character, suspected to be linked to various criminal activities in the area.
UPTH urged the public to disregard the allegations made in the trending video by the retired nurse, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of its legitimate and recognized staff.
The statement read, “The Management of the University of Port Teaching Hospital has seen a trending video of a deroofed building, and having investigated the said video, the person who sponsored the clip, Mrs Fortune Tenedam, is not a staff of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital and no accommodation was officially allocated to her.
The police have been notified of this case, and the hospital administration has received information that Mrs. Fortune defaced and damaged the building before leaving because she was housing suspicious individuals who were thought to be connected to the many illegal activities going on in the area. The administration had sent her multiple letters requesting that she leave the building.
“Because management is dedicated to the welfare of legitimate and acknowledged employees, management wishes the public to ignore the aforementioned trending video and its content.”
