Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, honored Nigerian workers on International Workers’ Day, applauding their fortitude, dedication, and love for the country despite the obstacles they confront at work.
His message was personally signed and distributed on Friday by his media aide, Eseme Eyiboh.
Akpabio said, “On this auspicious occasion of Workers’ Day 2026, I, Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the 10th Senate and chairman of the National Assembly, on behalf of the National Assembly, join millions of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to commend and congratulate the resilient, industrious, and patriotic Nigerian workers whose sweat and sacrifice continue to sustain the heartbeat of our nation.”
He emphasized the necessity of labor in several fields.
He continued, “Today, we celebrate you, the teachers who shape our future, the farmers who feed our country, the doctors and nurses who heal our land, the artisans, traders, civil servants, security personnel, and private sector employees who work tirelessly to build Nigeria.” You are the actual heroes of our democracy and the driving force of our economy.”
Akpabio noted the issues that workers confront, including as growing living costs and workplace stress. He stated that the Senate is committed to enhancing worker welfare through better laws and policies.The 10th National Assembly recognizes the issues that workers face, including increased living costs and workplace demands. I tell you that the Senate remains committed to enacting legislation for a livable wage, safer workplaces, pension reforms, and policies that promote job creation and labor dignity.”
He said that recent actions, such as the new National Minimum Wage Act and assistance packages, demonstrate this commitment.
Akpabio also urged firms to take better care of their employees, emphasizing that a well-treated staff is critical to national progress.
“On this May Day, I urge companies in both the public and private sectors to prioritize worker welfare. A motivated workforce is the basis for national production and success.”He commended labour unions for their cooperation and promised to continue working with them.
“On behalf of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I salute your courage, celebrate your contributions, and pledge that we will not relent until every Nigerian worker can look to the future with hope, dignity, and confidence.”
