Randy Waldrum, the former head coach of the Super Falcons, has questioned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) about more than $960,000 that it purportedly got from FIFA in order to prepare for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. In a widely shared video on X, Waldrum claimed that a FIFA source told him that each country that took part in the competition received funding to build their team. In October 2022, the NFF reportedly got roughly N1.4 billion in Nairawas to support the team. The former coach bemoaned the NFF’s inability to pay for the team’s business-class tickets and to even put the team in camp before the World Cup, despite receiving the enormous quantity of money. The American claimed that, in contrast to the US, where people would want to know how public funds are used, corruption is never questioned in Nigeria.The coach added that he was at the tournament without an analyst or even a scout, and that the NFF could only permit him to operate with just seven employees even if FIFA pays the technical staff bonuses. “I have a very close friend here in the United States who has strong ties to some of the FIFA board.” “This person told me that every nation received $960,000 from FIFA in October to get ready for the World Cup. Where is that money?” Waldrum said.Why didn’t we hold a camp in November if Nigeria received that funding? We flew to Japan, played the game, and then returned home. “We squandered the final five days of that training window. “So, all I want to know is where this money is.” Additionally, I learned from my contacts at FIFA that if a nation lacks the funds to purchase business class tickets for all of its citizens, FIFA will finance the purchase and deduct it from the money you receive from FIFA following the World Cup. Therefore, it is unacceptable to claim that we lacked the funds to purchase tickets and thus had no camps. Nigerians don’t question these kinds of things. They would be questioned in the United States. The US Soccer Federation would have to answer to it if they were acting in the same manner. Additionally, FIFA permits up to 22 technical staff members. We only have roughly eleven, though. Why don’t we have 22 persons if FIFA will pay incentives to up to 22? I scout and don’t have an analyst. In case they play in the World Cup, the United States has been traveling throughout Europe and observing team exhibitions. “Scouts are not even traveling with us to Australia. I have no one at all to scout games. I won’t even have somebody to scout games in other groups if we split up. All I need to do is watch videos and use what I can find online.
