Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents the Abia South Senatorial District, will not be returning to the red chamber in 2027, according to Prince Paul Ikonne, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress and former executive secretary of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA).
In a statement on Thursday, he revealed this.
Ikonne claims that after nearly 20 years in the Senate with no “developmental projects in the district to show for the long stay,” Abaribe’s constituents in Abia State have decided he should not be re-elected in 2027.
Senator Abaribe is returning home already. After serving in the Senate for 20 years, I have nothing to show for it. In all of Abia South, you won’t find a constituency project anywhere.
Given that Aba serves as the Southeast’s commercial hub, it is noteworthy that Abia South serves as the engine of Abia State and, consequently, the South-east. Additionally, Abia State’s oil-producing region is Abia South. But there’s nothing to show for it. Thus, he is already returning home. He said, “People are getting ready to welcome him back home, and some people are pushing for him to be given a traditional title to take over one community in his local government.”
Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection in 2027, Ikonne, who recently announced his intention to run for a senatorial seat in Abia State, stated that the south-east will experience an eight-year presidency.
