Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State revealed that he was moved to tears publicly due to the severely poor road conditions and absence of social amenities he witnessed in the Enugu Ukwu and Aguleri communities.
Speaking at an All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) campaign rally in Anambra East, Soludo recounted his first visit, where the journey took nearly one and a half hours over the “worst road” he had ever seen. He noted the total lack of basic services, including hospitals, pipe-borne water, and electricity. He also described seeing schoolchildren lining the road with cardboard papers detailing their schools’ urgent needs, such as missing seats, leaking roofs, and lack of teachers.
He contrasted this with his second visit, where he saw a solar-powered borehole scheme running, new power lines, and commissioned a brand new general hospital fully staffed with medical personnel and doctors. On this second visit, the schoolchildren were dancing and welcoming him instead of displaying lists of problems.
Soludo used this transformation as an illustration of his administration’s commitment, noting that despite the high cost and difficult terrain for road construction, his purpose is to “give hope.” He assured voters that if reelected, his administration would be inclusive and would “not leave anybody behind.”
