The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the immediate release of ₦2.1 billion to settle the outstanding gratuities owed to retired local government workers from January 2020 to May 2025.
The approval was announced in a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Local and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Adamu Jajere, and released to the media.
The statement noted that the Governor has directed that gratuity payments be included in the monthly financial schedule of local governments, ensuring that future retirement benefits are paid on time and without delay, in addition to pensions.
“In representing the state government, I would like to highlight that this action reflects the Governor’s compassionate and people-focused leadership, aimed at providing financial support and dignity to senior citizens,” the Commissioner said.
He added that the ministry has already begun the process of transparently and promptly distributing the approved funds to all eligible retirees.
The initiative is part of the Governor’s larger plan to improve fiscal responsibility and enhance the well-being of citizens who have contributed to the state’s development.
