The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zamfara State has reported a positive trend, with a decline in road crashes compared to the previous year.
Sector Commander Aliyu Ma’aji announced during the 2025 Ember Months Campaign flag-off that the command recorded 46 road crashes in 2025, down from 56 incidents in 2024, representing a 6.27% reduction in accidents. Despite this decrease in incidents, the Commander highlighted that 2024 crashes were particularly deadly, causing 51 fatalities and 259 injuries. He attributed these high casualty figures primarily to the unsafe practice of mixed loading by truck drivers, who transport goods, animals, and passengers all together.
The 2025 campaign, themed “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving,” emphasizes that drivers must avoid risky behavior. Ma’aji stressed that human factors like driver fatigue, overloading, and general unsafe transportation practices remain the major causes of crashes. To ensure safer roads during the approaching festive season, the FRSC has introduced new enforcement strategies aimed at addressing traffic violations and improving road discipline among motorists.
