Approximately fifteen officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, encompassing both state and zonal executive members, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The defecting officials, who occupied various crucial roles within the PDP, were formally received into the APC in Abuja on Wednesday by Alhaji Tijani Yahaya, acting on behalf of the former Governor and current Senator for Zamfara West, Abdul’aziz Yari.
Key figures among the defectors include the PDP Youth Leader, Sahad Dabo; former Treasurer, Nasiru Anka; former Organising Secretaries, Janaidu Magaji Kiyawa and Musa Halilu Faru; and the former Zonal Organising Secretary, Lawali Aliyu. Other notable individuals are Hajiya Rabi Bakura, Hajiya Amina Duniya, and Alhaji Tijani Yahaya (who also served as the representative).
Yahaya announced that Senator Yari and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, will host an official ceremony upon their return to the country to formally welcome the new members.
He subsequently handed over the defectors to the Zamfara APC Chairman, Tukur Umar Danfulani, who praised the efforts of Senator Yari and Minister Matawalle for their role in reinforcing the party’s structure in the state.
