Zulki’ida 1446AH began on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, according to His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Wazirin of Sokoto and the Chairman of the Sultanate Council’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, announced this pronouncement in a statement released on Monday.
The pronouncement came after the Sultanate Council’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs and the National Moon Sighting Committee failed to provide any conclusive reports on the sighting of the new crescent on Sunday, April 27, 2025, according to the statement.
As a result, the 30th day of Shawwal 1446AH will be observed on Monday, April 28, 2025, and Zulki’ida 1446AH will formally commence on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
The statement said that the Sultan wished the Muslim Ummah well and asked them to keep praying for the nation’s peace, harmony, and prosperity.
