Vice-President Kashim Shettima has been presented by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum with his preferred successor, Engineer Mustafa Gubio, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship.
Speaking on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Governor Zulum explained that the candidate’s appearance was the result of thorough discussions among party members.
Zulum claims that the ruling represents a cohesive stance within the state’s party.
He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the government and the APC with “strategic leadership, support, and guidance.”
The governor stated, “I want to express my profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the leadership he is providing in the country and for the enormous support to Borno State and the APC, which has been unprecedented.”
He added, “I would also like to commend the President, who has been instrumental in the emergence of Gubio as the consensus candidate.”
Zulum also thanked the Vice President for his support of the consensus candidate and for helping to improve party unity in the state.
Engineer Gubio was previously announced by the governor as his preferred successor.
Former Governor Maina Ma’aji Lawan, Deputy Governor Hon. Umar Usman Kadafur, APC Deputy National Chairman Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, Senators Mohanmed Tahir Monguno, Mohamed Ali Ndume, and Kaka Shehu Lawan SAN, Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, Minister of Agriculture Hon. Abubakar Kyari, Hon. Abdulkadir Rahis, and Hon. Mukhtar Betara Aliyu attended the consensus candidate.
