Former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore claims that rather than undermining President Bola Tinubu’s reelection campaign, the present coalition plans will strengthen it.
When Sowore hosted Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, he issued this warning and added that the initiatives lacked ideology and vision.
The coalition is taking actions that will facilitate Tinubu’s reelection and return to power. They are impeding the emergence of the true, natural alliance of the oppressed. Nigerians genuinely believe these men are fighting for them, so people are becoming sidetracked,” he said.
Additionally, he characterized the current coalition negotiations as meaningless and devoid of intellectual depth and direction.
“The coalition is the one that is lonely, not me. That’s why they can’t even hold meetings or find a party to join.
They now claim that they wish to register a party, which is a sign of loneliness. Any coalition that lacks a common ideology is doomed. Without integrity, conviction, or character, there can be no alliance,” he stated.
Sowore made these remarks in the wake of a growing political realignment as different players set themselves up for the upcoming presidential contest.
Keep in mind that the opposition front has been supported by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate has stated that he has held discussions with Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State who just left the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The PDP Governors’ Forum has publicly disassociated itself from the negotiations, claiming that doing so would jeopardize the party’s internal stability, making the coalition attempts seem far from being coherent.
In a same spirit, Obi has stated unequivocally that he will not join any coalition established purely for the sake of gaining power, demanding that any merger take into account Nigeria’s more serious governance issues.
Sowore urged Nigerians to cease relying on political elites and start creating solutions on their own, while also sharing his own vision for the future.
The only road out is the one they create for themselves, and people must realize this. The direction must be different.
“You will end yourself in a worse predicament than you are now if you continue to allow them to continue their behavior toward you and become sidetracked by all of these discussions about coalitions. Since the beginning of civil rule, that has been Nigeria’s story,” he concluded.
