According to the DAILY POST, a meeting of PDP chieftains to develop a consensus candidate to represent the federal constituency of Egbeda/Ona Ara ahead of the 2027 elections came to a standstill.
According to our correspondent, the meeting took place in the state capital of Ibadan on Monday.
About sixteen party leaders from the two local government areas—Egbeda and Ona Ara—were present.
Elder Wole Oyelese, a former Minister of Special Duties, presided over the meeting.
Additionally, five candidates running on the party’s platform attended, including four from the Ona Ara local government region and one from the Egbeda local government area.
It was discovered that there was no candidate that the leaders and the candidates could agree upon.
The state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, ordered the leaders and candidates to get together and decide on a candidate for the election, according to what our correspondent was informed.
It was discovered that Makinde advised them to bring the topic before him for discussion on April 15 of this year if they were unable to come to an agreement.
Our correspondent was informed by a source at the meeting on Tuesday that the leaders and the candidates could not agree on who should be chosen, therefore the conference ended without a clear winner.
The former minister adjourned the meeting indefinitely, according to the source.
“We were unable to reach a consensus at our discussion with the candidates for the Egbeda/Ona-Ara federal constituency yesterday, which resulted in a deadlock.
“Five candidates showed up. One person was from the Egbeda local government area, while four were from the Ona Ara local government district. Everything was going well, but the meeting was adjourned indefinitely by the chairman, a former minister, when it became evident that we could not reach a consensus, according to a source.
