2,102 applicants for PhD scholarships are screened by PTDF.

2,102 candidates for the Overseas Scholarship Scheme (OSS) for PhD in France, Germany, and Malaysia are being interviewed by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).

PTDF’s Deputy General Manager of Education and Training, Dr. Mohamed Bello Mustafa, stated during the process yesterday in Abuja that the figure comes from a pool of more over 30,000 applicants for both MSc and PhD programs.

The interviews for the foreign scholarship program are currently in their second week. We completed the MSc in four centers last week; in two of those centers, we completed both the MSc and the PhD. The second week of the PhD programs is currently underway.

He continued by saying that a management decision will be made at the end of the day and that the final applicants will be chosen based on merit and budgetary provisions.

We will submit our recommendation to management after completing all of these procedures. However, as was the case last year, we typically handed one to each state and another to states that produce oil.

Prof. Bashir Aliyu, one of the panelists, stated that the exercise was going well.

According to him, the panel was essentially evaluating candidates based on their first degree, master’s degree, capacity, ability, and the caliber of their work.
