In a fresh effort to combat criminal groups in the state, officers of the Akwa Ibom State police command have detained 25 alleged cultists, including ten women.
The suspects were detained in the state’s Abak Local Government Area during a meeting of their members, according to a statement released on Monday by the command’s public relations officer, DSP Timfon John in Uyo.
According to John, the operation that resulted in the suspects’ arrest on May 3, 2026, was carried out by the operatives acting on reliable intelligence after receiving orders from the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, to step up raids on designated black spots and dismantle criminal networks.
The agents successfully made the arrest after storming Oku Abak Village in Abak LGA, a well-known black area where suspected members of a hidden cult confraternity were allegedly gathering.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another significant operational breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on criminal elements across the State,” the statement says in part.
“Operatives of the Command, acting on credible intelligence, carried out a successful operation in Abak Local Government Area in accordance with the directives of Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, to intensify raids on identified black spots and dismantle criminal networks.”
At around 2119 hours on May 3, 2026, ERS agents raided Oku Abak Village in Abak LGA, a known dark spot where suspected members of a hidden cult confraternity were allegedly gathering.
According to the statement, Ubong Victor is one of the male suspects. Onyekachi Celestine, Sifon Ekong, Aniekeme Friday, Gabriel Utitofon Liberty Sunday, and Emmanuel Sunday. Emmanuel Johnson Usiene Michael, Michael Effiong, Mbetobong Johnson “M,” Christian Daniel, Baribor Zorka, Solomon John, and Moses Eno are among the others.
Ella Sunday, Esther Samuel, Gift Okon, Esther Effiong, Delight Eze, Agatha Godwin, Faith Simon Favor Naru, Precious Effiong, and Hope Edet are among the female suspects.
One locally manufactured handgun, two live rounds, and a red beret were found following a comprehensive search of the area, according to the statement, along with a motorcycle and a minibus that were seized.
Reiterating the Command’s unwavering commitment to eradicating cultism and other criminal activity from the State, it issued a warning to all criminal elements to stop their illegal activities or face the full force of the law. It also urged the public to continue supporting the Police by reporting any suspicious activity in their communities and by providing timely and reliable information.
During a regular nighttime sweep in the state’s Idimu district in April, the Lagos State Police Command apprehended three suspected armed robbers.
According to the command, the suspects were captured early on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
