Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles’ head coach, has acknowledged that he is safeguarding Victor Osimhen in light of his upcoming summer transfer. Osimhen did not receive an invitation for Nigeria’s matches at the Unity Cup and a friendly against Russia on June 6. The 26-year-old has yet to determine his future following his loan at Galatasaray.
Chelle is tipping Osimhen, who scored 26 goals in Turkey, to join one of the big European clubs.
“I need to protect him physically and mentally, because maybe he will go [and get a transfer move].
“Maybe a club like Manchester United. Or maybe Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid.
“So he needs to be focused on that,” Chelle told BBC Sport.
Saudi Arabia Pro League teams are also believed to be eyeing a move for Osimhen.
