Otega Ogra, President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Digital Engagement, Strategy, and New Media, has criticized Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, for his remarks regarding the President’s visit to Saint Lucia.
According to the DAILY POST, Obi criticized President Tinubu for taking a “holiday” to Saint Lucia while the country is still experiencing a security crisis.
Ogra reacted quickly, calling Obi an ex-governor who did not make plans for his state’s future.
According to him, Obi cannot point to a sustaining legacy from his two-term administration in Anambra, adding that President Tinubu’s trip to Saint Lucia is beyond his understanding of geopolitics.
The presidential aide further said that the President’s trip to the Caribbean country is an effort to place Nigeria where it needs to be.
It is impossible for someone who didn’t plan for Anambra’s future and can’t identify a lasting legacy from his administration to comprehend the significance of his president’s journey to the Caribbean. It is a “holiday” to him. It is a masterstroke, according to people who understand geopolitics, where Nigeria needs to be, and how it can get there fast,” he said.
Prior to Ogra’s tweet, the Presidency had responded to Obi’s statement by restating that the trip is a historic diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening cooperation and rekindling ancestral ties between Nigeria and the Caribbean country.
