The frequent trespassing, theft, and vandalism of the university’s infrastructure by members of the host community has been denounced by the Federal University Dutse (FUD).
This was announced at a pre-convocation conference on Tuesday in the university’s Senate Chamber by Prof. Abdulkadim Sabo, the vice chancellor.
He claimed that these actions endanger the campus despite the university’s corporate social duty to provide services to the host and surrounding communities.
“” We moved from campus-centered care to community-centered impact by providing health services to 17 nearby host communities as part of our significant business responsibility.
“We conduct house-to-house vaccination campaigns, offer mobile outreach to correctional facilities and orphanages, and provide free obstetric ultrasound scanning to pregnant women,” he stated.
Two emergency hotlines were established to ensure prompt ambulance response and 24-hour medical advice, the vice chancellor continued.
According to him, some walls are broken by members of the community or off-campus students to allow simple access without considering the security risks.
Sabo also bemoaned the fact that animals are able to enter the campus and decimate the vegetation surrounding the university.
He urged the host community to refrain from trespassing and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to enhancing campus security.
In the meantime, Sabo outlined additional difficulties the university faces, such as the inability to pay utility bills because of the increase in electricity rates and the meager overhead grants.
He also criticized the university for lacking a suitable firefighting engine and equipment, which is a fundamental requirement.
On Friday, the vice chancellor announced that 4,277 students would graduate from the university’s eighth and ninth combined convocation.
