Bandits ambushed a vigilante group in the Kukawa and Bunyun towns in Plateau State’s Kanam Local Government Area on Monday, killing at least 70 of the group’s members.
According to Aliyu Baffa, the chairman of the Kukawa vigilante organization, who verified the story to our correspondent, the surprise attack on his squad occurred while a group of vigilantes from several Wase LGA formations were en route to locate the hiding places of bandits.
According to Baffa, who described the attack, the squad encountered an ambush set up by the bandits, who were armed with advanced weaponry and opened fire on them, instantly killing almost 70 of them.
The vigilante Chairman went on to say that by the evening of the day, they had buried the dead in a mass grave, but he was concerned that there might still be more bodies in the bushes because several of his members were still unaccounted for and missing.
