The Dangote Group has denied allegations that two deadly traffic accidents in Enugu State on Wednesday involved its trucks.
The trucks involved in the two distinct crashes did not belong to the Dangote Group and were not driven by any of its subsidiaries, the company explained in a statement issued Thursday by Anthony Chijiena, a spokesman for the company.
The stance taken by Dangote Group supports an Enugu State Police Command statement regarding the incidents.
The vehicles belonged to two logistics companies, Visco Investment Global and Global Investment, according to the police command, and ten people were killed.
“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the victims of these tragic incidents and their families,” Dangote said in response.
The “increasing spread of misinformation falsely attributing such incidents to the Dangote Group without substantiated evidence” was another issue raised by the company.
It also emphasized its dedication to road safety and urged the public and media outlets to confirm claims before disseminating them.
It has “repeatedly cautioned truckers to desist from using its logo on their vehicles,” according to Dangote Group.
The company promised to increase oversight and take legal action against anyone using its name without permission.
