Midtjylland and Ajax are “in talks” over Dolberg’s return to Denmark.

According to reports, Ajax and Kasper Dolberg are negotiating a possible return to his home country of Denmark with FC Midtjylland of the Danish Superliga.

After completing a move for up to €10 million, Dolberg, 28, signed a four-year contract to return to Ajax from Anderlecht last season. In his first season back in Amsterdam since 2019, the Dane had a lackluster campaign, scoring just eight goals in 36 games across all competitions, including three in 22 league games.

Dolberg only managed two goals in the second half of the season; his most recent Ajax goal came against Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League on January 28.

Dolberg is expected to depart because technical director Jordi Cruyff is determined to restructure the Ajax team, and it is said that he does not live up to Cruyff’s high expectations.

Superliga team FC Midtjylland is reportedly in negotiations with the club and player on a possible transfer, according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. Midtjylland hopes to entice Dolberg to return to his home country of Denmark, where he last played for Silkeborg in 2016, after finishing second in Denmark behind AGF Aarhus.
