Olasijibomi Suji Ogundele, the CEO of Sujimoto, has been urged by Enugu State stakeholders, acting through the Enugu Patriots, to stop the charade and return the funds that were purportedly embezzled from the state government’s Smart Schools Project. The group supported the Enugu State Government, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the EFCC in their efforts to recoup the N5.7 billion that was paid to Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited for the building of 22 of the 260 Smart Green Schools that the government has planned.
The group also refuted Sujimoto’s assertion that his business had already invested N4 billion in the projects prior to the contract’s termination in February 2025, when the prearranged completion date had passed.
The group claims that Sujimoto could not have spent up to N600 million on the work he completed at all 22 sites before the government reclaimed them, based on images and videos of the sites taken in May 2025 and a report it obtained from the Enugu State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
Prof. Mathiine Anikwe, the group’s spokesperson, made the statement on Monday.
It also criticized Ogundele’s attempt to place the blame on profit margin and inflation, pointing out that numerous contractors had already completed their own projects.
The Sujimoto CEO’s assertion that his company received N5.2 billion rather than N5.7 billion was also criticized by the Enugu Patriots, who said it was an attempt to downplay the company’s VAT and tax liabilities.
