Nwachinemere Kalu-Agba, a public servant of Nigerian origin, has secured re-election as the Deputy Mayor (Mayor Pro Tem) for the City of Orangeburg, South Carolina, United States, for a two-year term concluding in 2027.
His successful re-election was confirmed by Peter Agba Kalu in a Facebook announcement on Sunday, which included congratulations and a call for celebration.
Kalu-Agba, who is also a City Council representative for his area, previously occupied the Deputy Mayor role. He had stepped down due to a new state law mandating a two-year limit for the Mayor Pro Tem position, followed by a mandatory break before the official can be re-elected.
Following the end of his successor’s term, he returned to the position and will continue to perform the duties of both Deputy Mayor and city council member simultaneously.
His current four-year term as a city council member will end in 2027, at which point he will determine whether to run for re-election.
