Nigerian music star Adedamola Adefolahan, better known by his stage as Fireboy DML, has talked candidly about the difficult time in his life before he became famous. He reportedly admitted that he was set to start selling rechargeable bulbs under a bridge in Lagos.
The Peruvian crooner provided fans a unique look into the struggles he had prior to his breakthrough with YBNL Nation, the record label run by rapper and businessman Olamide, during an emotional interview on the London-based “90s Baby Show” that was posted on Instagram on Saturday.
In order to make ends meet, Fireboy recalled a period of time when he gave starting a small business considerable thought.
“I’m grateful that Olamide signed me. Rechargeable lamps were something I was thinking of selling. During the interview, he disclosed, “I met a guy under Ajah Bridge; he was telling me about the business, and I told him I was interested.”
The singer clarified that, despite his love of music, he had to consider other possibilities, no matter how little, because survival came first.
It seemed more dignified to me at the time. People will say you sell lamps, at least. But man, it’s ridiculous to offer pepper soup. My parents were unaware that I worked at low-paying jobs. We thank God now, even if it was wild,” Fireboy remarked.
As luck would have it, his music career took off in 2018 after a straightforward WhatsApp message. His journey was drastically changed when he signed with YBNL Nation as a result of the message.
