The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education (NCAOOSCE) has called for a comprehensive investigation into the murder of Salihu Hassan, a 17-year-old student at Madarasatul Mallam Mainasara in the Illelayari area of Birnin Kebbi.
Salihu was reportedly discovered bleeding severely early on Monday, November 24, 2025, and police rushed him to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested one suspect, and the case has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiry.
In a Wednesday statement, NCAOOSCE Executive Secretary Dr. Muhammad Sani Idris called the incident heartbreaking and unacceptable.
He said, “The loss of this young Almajiri is painful. Violence against children undermines our collective efforts to build safe and inclusive learning environments. We urge the authorities to pursue justice swiftly and diligently.”
The Commission praised the quick action of security personnel but stressed the need for a transparent investigation to ensure the victim receives justice.
NCAOOSCE stated it is collaborating with the Kebbi State Government, security agencies, and community leaders to review safety procedures in learning centers and support the deceased’s family.
It also offered condolences to the victim’s family, the school, and Kebbi residents, urging all stakeholders to prioritize protecting children and ensuring safe learning environments.
