The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, announced the promotion of 57 senior officers to Air Vice Marshal and Air Commodore ranks to deepen the Service’s leadership amid national security changes.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, NAF Director of Public Relations, stated that the promotions, released Thursday, highlight the NAF leadership’s commitment to creating a smarter, stronger, and more operationally decisive force to quickly counter threats nationwide.
The statement listed 27 senior officers promoted to Air Vice Marshal, including Air Commodores SA Eyoma, GI Jibia, AA Adebomehin, ES Odekina, CE Akubue, SO Eyekosi, AO Akinbuwa, LI Kamat, AG Akinyimika, AO Bamidele, AK Famuyiwa, PJ Edem, SA Madaki, OT Salami, FO Ankeli, MJ Chidama, JJ Ijudigal, M Umar, IJ Ogbodo, U Ariahu, AL Dakwat, CE Akpa, EC Ukpong, IS Subi, IM Yusha’u, SS Lazarus, and F Ekpah.
Additionally, 30 senior officers were elevated to Air Commodore, including Group Captains MA Imam, AA Komolafe, HI Eze, DU Edet, MB Umar, GH Okoh, SP Sekegor, PP Okonkwo, PU Okweugo, AU Yahaya, M Yahaya, IR Ubeh, OK Cole, EA Ifebi, RK Olundu, IO Akpasa, AK Mohammed, HA Meshack, SN Nwachi, ZB Shuwa, EJ Alabila, SA Osoniyi, AO Ogunmola, AJ Arumona, BI Jayeoba, CE Akuh, NN Onuoha-Mba, PA Garba, YM Abdullahi, and M Suleiman.
The promotions aim to reinforce high command, improve operational expertise, and strengthen the service’s strategic core, with officers selected based on merit, professional skill, loyalty, and alignment with NAF goals.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, called the promotion proof of the officers’ sacrifice, professional excellence, and dedication to national defense.
He noted the elevation was driven by the need to deepen command responsibility, sharpen decision-making, and boost NAF readiness across various operations.
He stated that Nigeria faces complex security issues like terrorism, banditry, and cross-border crimes, demanding speed and innovation from military leaders. He clarified that the elevation is a responsibility, not just recognition.
He told the officers that the nation needs leaders who think clearly, act precisely, and inspire unity, adding, “Nigeria is counting on you, and you must not fail.”
Air Marshal Aneke charged the officers to serve with integrity, humility, and operational sharpness while improving synergy with sister services, enhancing intelligence, mentoring juniors, and maintaining strict discipline in all air operations.
