The Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, confirmed the death of a former student, Oyelade Habeeb Olawale, who was killed in a violent confrontation near the campus on Tuesday.
Olawale, a former Civil Engineering student, was allegedly attacked during a clash involving suspected rival cult groups linked to ex-students who had returned to the area. The incident initially caused panic among the campus community before the institution’s security personnel intervened.
The Polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Halimat Garba, called the killing “regrettable” and confirmed that several suspects have been arrested in connection with the clash and subsequently handed over to security agencies for further investigation. Garba assured the public that normalcy has been restored and academic activities remain undisrupted, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to preventing violence and protecting its students.
