Comrade Timi Frank, the former Deputy National Publicity Secretary for the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated that the United States, under President Donald Trump, recently imposed visa restrictions on Nigeria because the country was slow to firmly tackle terrorism and its backers.
Frank shared this information in a statement released on Friday.
DAILY POST reported that the U.S. implemented a policy to limit visas for people in Nigeria who fund or sympathize with terrorism.
In response, Frank praised U.S. President Trump and Congress members for taking steps to address terror financing connected to Nigeria.
He argued that this action has created pressure on Nigerian officials to be more open about security issues.
Frank called the move “a welcome development” and proof of the U.S. government’s dedication to worldwide security efforts.
Frank believes the visa restrictions signify major international pressure that has forced Nigerian officials to re-examine existing worries about terror financing.
He also criticized the Nigerian government for not publicly releasing the names of terror financiers that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reportedly identified in earlier investigations.
He asserted that political interference has stopped authorities from naming and prosecuting these individuals.
Frank contended that corruption and political motives have weakened Nigeria’s ability to respond to growing insecurity, even though the country has the means to solve the problem.
He also asked the U.S. government to be careful about sharing intelligence with Nigerian officials until the reported list of terror sponsors is fully disclosed to the public and assurances of accountability are provided.
Frank concluded by saying, “Let it be clearly stated: if President Trump had not stepped in, Nigeria’s leaders would still be looking the other way,” and “Their intervention has exposed what our own leaders have refused to confront and has given Nigerians renewed hope that this nightmare can end.”
