In response to the recent killings in the Bokkos region of Plateau State, Mr. Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, visited the state on Sunday to offer condolences. Obi traveled from Abuja to Jos, the state capital, and expressed sorrow over what he called “senseless killings,” saying that such violence is intolerable in a nation that is not officially at war, according to a statement released on Monday via X. “To express my condolences and solidarity with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the people of Plateau State regarding the recent senseless killings in the Bokkos area of the state, I traveled from Abuja to Jos, Plateau State, yesterday,” he stated.
Obi reported that he traveled from Jos to Bokkos, where he spoke with displaced children and other impacted individuals who had been impacted by the attacks. He emphasized that no Nigerian should have to live in fear in their own nation and bemoaned the destruction in the neighborhoods.
“What has occurred in these communities is heartbreaking and completely intolerable. In times when we are not at war, Nigerians shouldn’t be slaughtered or displaced. No Nigerian, no matter where they reside, should have to live in dread or uncertainty because every life is valuable,” he said. “My deepest condolences go to the families and communities who have suffered tragic losses,” Obi said in his condolence statement. The suffering and destruction caused by such senseless bloodshed are beyond description.
He also recalled his political movement’s prior backing. and said that N7.5 million more was donated by the movement to help displaced children, continue their education, and meet their continuing requirements.
Earlier, the Obidient Movement had built a borehole to provide clean water for the IDP camp and the community, and we continued the support yesterday with the sum of 7.5 million naira to help in providing facilities for the displaced children, provide continuous education and on going needs of those affected.
“My heart is with the people of Bokkos, the displaced children, women, and entire communities during this difficult time,” he said.
Calling for purposeful governance, Obi stated, “Now, more than ever, leadership and compassion are essential. I stand in solidarity with Plateau State and remain committed to supporting all efforts toward peace, justice, and healing.
“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may the people find strength, comfort, and unity as they rebuild their lives.”
