Vincent Temitope, a forward for Plateau United, was attacked by a home supporter during an exciting 3-2 victory for Nasarawa United.
The NPFL has ordered the Solid Miners to play their remaining home games at Pantami Stadium in Gombe in addition to the monetary penalty. Concerns about insufficient matchday security at Lafia City Stadium, the home field of Nasarawa United, prompted the league to take this action.
The club has been directed by the league officials to identify the perpetrator of Temitope’s assault and provide proof that legal action is being taken against them.
Before Nasarawa United can resume playing at Lafia City Stadium in next seasons, they must also put in place more efficient security measures for upcoming games and submit a thorough crowd control plan to the NPFL board.
The club has 48 hours to contest the penalties, which include the fine and expulsion.
As Nasarawa United contemplate their next steps, they will be battling to remain in the NPFL beyond this season. They are currently sitting in the 14th spot on the league table with 42 points in 33 games, four points away from the relegation zone.
