Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, began her 2025 outdoor season with a disappointing fourth-place result at Saturday’s Diamond League opener in Xiamen, China.
This is Tobi Amusan’s first hurdles race since her performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she did not win a medal.
In Xiamen, Amusan clocked a time of 12.74 seconds. The race was won by reigning world champion Danielle Williams, who executed a dramatic come-from-behind victory with a time of 12.53 seconds.
Grace Stark from the USA achieved a personal best of 12.58 seconds to take second place, while Marione Fourie from South Africa followed closely in third with a time of 12.62 seconds.

Meanwhile, Bahamian World Indoor Champion Devynne Charlton experienced an unfortunate setback when she clipped a hurdle early in the race, leading to a did not finish (DNF) result.
Amusan has been selected for Nigeria’s women’s 4x100m relay team at the forthcoming World Relays in Guangzhou, China, which will take place next month.
She is likely to stay in China until then, as her next scheduled event in the Diamond League is the Yangtze River Delta Athletics Diamond Gala at the China Textile City Sports Centre on May 3
