Chris Sutton, a former striker for Chelsea, has stated that Arsenal was “robbed” during Wednesday night’s 1-1 Champions League match with Atletico Madrid.
Both Julian Alvarez and Viktor Gyokeres were able to give up penalties on either side of the break.
Referee Danny Makkelie indicated the spot after Eberechi Eze tumbled over in the area as the game was still in the balance.
However, Makkelie changed his mind after receiving advice from VAR to reconsider the situation.
Sutton stated on BBC Radio 5, “Arsenal have been absolutely robbed this evening.”
“People can debate the merits, but anyone watching the game tonight can discuss Arsenal’s performance and their shortcomings.
However, Arsenal would be in an incredible situation heading into the match at the Emirates next week, and they now have a lot of work ahead of them.
