An alleged attack on supporters of Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the National Assembly who represents Ideato North and South, has been attributed by the Imo State Chapter of the Action Peoples Party (APP) to the State Government.

The party claims that the attack happened during a constituency briefing and the formal opening of the Federal Constituency office at Christ Anglican Church, Itueke, Ideato South LGA.
The party said in a news release sent by its spokesperson, Steve Nnadi, that the State Government sent security guards and masked men who were thought to be thugs to the event site and terrorized the lawmaker’s followers and constituents.
“In what seems to be an intentional effort to disturb, harass, and threaten Hon. Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State allegedly sent security personnel and masked thugs to the location of a constituency briefing attended by men, women, young people, and visitors from all walks of life. Ikenga Ugochinyere is the Honourable Member of the House of Representatives who represents the good and enterprising people of Ideato North and South Federal Constituency.
According to reports, the attendees experienced aggression, humiliation, molestation, and tear gas, which is consistent with the State Government’s repeated practices.
The party claimed that if this practice continues unchecked, it could create a dangerous and harsh precedent against opposition people in the State.
The party remembered that since the current administration took office on January 15, 2020, the incidence had become a regular occurrence.
It is documented that Governor Uzodinma has persisted in what are seen as deliberate assaults on Hon. Ugochinyere.
“The reported use of tear gas and live ammunition on unarmed constituents is deemed not only unacceptable but also barbaric, and it deserves widespread condemnation.”
It may be remembered that a similar occurrence allegedly happened at the lawmaker’s rural residence, where a fire incident purportedly connected to state agents destroyed properties valued at millions of naira and claimed lives.
APP vehemently denounced the move and urged state residents, both domestically and abroad, to speak out against the act, which the party claimed had the potential to spark ongoing societal turmoil.
Additionally, the party demanded that Governor Uzodinma be called to order by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the State Elders Council, and the State House of Assembly.All attempts to contact Mbadiwe Emeluba, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, were futile since he did not return calls, texts, or WhatsApp messages.
