President Bola Tinubu is still the overwhelming favorite for the 2027 presidential election, according to former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, who maintains that a split opposition is insufficient to mount a meaningful challenge.
In an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Fayose contended that the failure of opposition parties to coalesce under a clear platform prior to the election had diminished their chances.
Despite widespread worries about insecurity, economic hardship, and the rising cost of living nationwide, he also rejected claims that Tinubu faced serious electoral threats.
Tinubu has no opponents. This might not sit well with you. Fayose stated, “There is a difference between reality and noise on social media. If opposition leaders had been successful in forming a cohesive coalition, the President would have faced a more difficult battle.”
“I would say Tinubu would get a run for his money if the opposition coalition had stayed together and were to be in one party against Tinubu,” he said.
According to Fayose, the opposition’s chances have been further reduced by the growth of political groups and presidential contenders.
Tinubu is similar to every Nigerian leader I support, but let me tell you, once the NDC and ADC were established, they claimed Tinubu was advocating for a one-party state. Now that there are so many parties, they have ruined their own path,” he stated.
Fayose compared the opposition’s division to the 2023 presidential election and suggested that Tinubu would benefit from it once more.
“You recall that it was a big three-horse race when Atiku and Obi ran, and Tinubu had his way, and I’m telling you again, Tinubu will have his way with ease,” he continued.
Additionally, he asserted that Tinubu has made every effort to resolve the nation’s worsening security situation, claiming that the problem is blackmailing the president in front of the 2027 election.
“President Tinubu may not be a perfect person, but he has given his best,” he declared. By the end of Buhari’s presidency, things had gotten worse. By replacing Buhari, President Tinubu essentially gave himself control of the government.
He took everything personally and handled the harm caused by the previous administration since he was a respectable man who would not want to claim that he had deserted the northerners.
“Jonathan was similarly blackmailed through insecurity when he was about to leave office.”
