The relatives of Senate President Godswill Akpabio have refuted allegations made by social media activist Haruna Gololo that Akpabio made inciting remarks against the North prior to the general elections in 2027.
In a widely shared video, Haruna Garba, better known on social media as Garus Gololo, accused the Senate President of disrespecting the North by asserting that Akpabio had declared that “with or without the North, President Bola Tinubu would win the 2027 presidential election.”
In a statement released in Uyo on Monday, the organization, operating under the auspices of the Isong Annang Ethnic Forum in Akwa Ibom State, defended the Senate President, claiming that it had looked into the allegations and concluded that they were fabricated and intended to damage his reputation.
The statement, which was signed by the group’s national president, Prince Mendy Archibong; national secretary, Elder Mfon Ebong; and national women leader, Hon. According to the group, Akpabio is a well-respected patriot who recognizes the value of promoting unity among Nigerians regardless of their ethnicity, religion, or geographic location.
The party claims that “Distinguished Senator Akpabio is a well-known nationalist with a political leadership record that shows his deep respect for the cultural and religious diversity in our nation.”
Despite their unique heterogeneity, he recognizes the practicality of cultivating a warm, homogenous tie of brotherhood among all Nigerians from every tribe, faith, and area.
“His appreciation of the diversity of our country predates his time as Senate President. This is evident in the significant and fundamental lifestyle decisions our son made during his honorable tenure as Akwa Ibom State’s governor.
In the interest of justice, equity, and the maintenance of political collaboration between the North and South, the organization called on Northern elites to back President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term and urged Arewa’s leadership to ignore what it called a campaign of defamation.
Respected Arewa leaders and organizations are urged by the forum to discountenance the statement
“The forum calls on Northern Nigerian elites to support President Bola Tinubu’s second term in 2027 to balance the power rotation between the North and South for justice, fairness, and to preserve the long history of shared political cooperation between the North and South.”
The organization pledged to continue its commitment to peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding while reiterating its support and solidarity with Tinubu and the Senate President.
The statement continued, “Isong Annang Ethnic Forum reaffirms its unwavering support and solidarity with President Bola Tinubu and Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, and pledges to remain faithfully committed to encouraging mutual understanding and peaceful co-existence between the Annang nation and other ethnic groups and regions in Nigeria.”
