Ovie Omo-Agege, a former deputy president of the Senate, has insisted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) abandoned him and his supporters in Delta State rather than him.
Omo-Agege claimed that the APC deserted him and more than 240,000 of his supporters in the state during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday.
Additionally, he defended some of President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, citing the flotation of the naira and the elimination of fuel subsidies as essential reforms that he still supports.
Omo-Agege pointed out that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi had previously backed the same course for policy.
He added that he thinks the policies would be better carried out under his current political platform, but he stated that his political stance has not changed.
Now, when Mr. President proposed some of these economic policies, particularly the one that dealt with the elimination of subsidies and Nairalotation. I did support these policies, and I still do, but let me say this.
“Even though Mr. President promoted these policies, which I agree with, Peter Obi also supported them.
“So, the question is, have I changed my mind about this? No, I haven’t.
“I simply think that these policies will continue under the new platform I’ve gone to, and the people—the majority of Nigerians who disagree with that policy—will feel more confident because they are more at ease and trust Peter Obi to make these policies even more effective than Mr. President could have.”\
The policies are not ineffective. Under President Bola Tinubu, I backed them, and I still do.
