In an attempt to get ready for a possible Champions League qualifying, Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has made calculated changes to his management style. Regarding multi-club ownership, UEFA, the organization that oversees European football, has particular rules. At the moment, Marinakis owns the Portuguese team Rio Ave, the Greek team Olympiakos, and Nottingham Forest.
Marinakis has taken action to comply with UEFA’s regulations, which forbid teams owned by the same person from participating in the same European competition, as Nottingham Forest and Olympiakos both want to qualify for the Champions League. As a result, he is no longer regarded as a “person with significant control” of Nottingham Forest’s owner, NF Football Investments Limited.
According to the BBC, Marinakis has put his shares in a blind trust in order to comply with UEFA regulations, but a club insider has affirmed that he is still devoted to Nottingham Forest as its owner. In order to ensure compliance with UEFA’s ownership criteria, this change is a part of a larger restructuring that was submitted to Companies House.
Crucially, the modifications were to be completed by the end of April, and Nottingham Forest has done so. Co-owner Sokratis Kominakis will rejoin the club’s board after Marinakis steps down. With a game in hand, Nottingham Forest is now in sixth place in the Premier League, tied with Chelsea in fifth place, who currently occupy the final Champions League qualification berth. In contrast, Olympiakos is in the lead in the Greek Super League and is well-positioned to qualify for the Champions League. In the upcoming weeks, it is also expected that Edu, the former sporting director of Arsenal, would be named to a new worldwide position inside Marinakis’ multi-club framework.
