The Nigerian police in Abuja have detained Martins Vincent Otse, a well-known social media influencer in Nigeria who goes by the handle VeryDarkMan (VDM).
According to Basemedia News, VDM was taken into custody after publicly criticizing Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) for allegedly doing unauthorized activities using his mother’s bank account.
Barrister Deji Adeyanju, VDM’s attorney, confirmed the arrest on Friday, stating that VeryDarkMan was captured by Nigeria Police Force officers at Area 3 in Abuja. According to reports, the influencer’s detention came after she publicly criticized the bank on social media.
JUST IN: At GTB, VDM was taken into custody by the police. Prior to his arrest, he spoke with them. This is completely inappropriate. In his initial post on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), Adeyanju stated that calling for accountability is not illegal.
Adeyanju gave more information in a follow-up statement, claiming that VDM and his friend C Park had been taken into custody by a group of police officers at the bank.
However, according to Adeyanju, VDM’s mother, who was also involved in the case, was not apprehended.
“They arrested VDM at GTB. He was arrested with his friend C Park but they left his mom alone,” Adeyanju tweeted.
