After visiting his boyhood neighborhood in Agege, Lagos, Afrobeats singer Adekunle Temitope, better known by his stage as Small Doctor, has expressed alarm over the growing drug usage epidemic among Nigerian youngsters.
The singer expressed his worry on his X Twitter on Wednesday after seeing a number of young men he knew from his past who appeared to be addicted.
He pointed out that many were “sleeping while standing” or motionless in bizarre positions, clearly confused and detached from reality.
A passionate plea for more robust anti-drug abuse activism was made by Small Doctor. He urged fellow public people to use their platforms to speak out, underlining the severity of the situation.”That man saw the future,” the singer acknowledged in retrospect, recalling a conversation he had six years ago with Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde (KWAM 1), who suggested that Small Doctor establish a rehabilitation center, which KWAM 1 claimed would become “the new oil” as the drug epidemic grew worse.I think we need him more now, Small Doctor wrote. “There is one bros that sings against drug abuse on socials, been a minute I came across his contents (David something can’t fully remember).” “I strolled through hoods on Sunday and what I saw was heartbreaking. The rate at which young men use drugs nowadays is alarming.” “Wasiu Ayinde told me six years ago to establish a rehabilitation center, stating it is the new oil. That man saw the future.” “Most heartbreaking was when I arrived in my hood, I saw some promising guys we grew up together; some were even making some crazy postures while sleeping. So sad.”
