The formal groundbreaking ceremony for SPL Utorogu Limited’s gas processing plant project in Utorogu, Delta State, was successfully held. SPL Utorogu Limited is an indigenous energy firm that focuses on the development and operation of gas infrastructure assets in Nigeria.
Nigeria’s path toward improved gas use, energy security, and economic prosperity was significantly advanced by the event.
The project, which is intended to be a cutting-edge gas processing facility, is positioned to be crucial in utilizing Nigeria’s plentiful natural gas resources.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), condensate, and autogas for residential and commercial usage are anticipated to be produced by the plant, which has a proposed processing capacity of 200–300 MMSCFD.
Speaking at the event, Engineer Pius Aigbomeikhe Bawa, Managing Director of SPL Utorogu Limited, emphasized the project’s strategic significance in advancing national priorities, such as the Federal Government’s “Decade of Gas” initiative.
The Federal Government’s commitment to commercializing gas, reducing gas flaring, and advancing Nigeria’s energy transformation objectives has advanced significantly with this initiative.
According to Bawa, “it will not only strengthen domestic gas supply but also create sustainable economic opportunities for our host communities and the nation at large.”
He stated that the Utorogu Gas Processing Plant would support the Federal Government’s efforts to reduce gas flares and increase domestic gas availability for industrial expansion and power generation.
According to Bawa, it would help the host town strengthen its infrastructure and provide jobs during both the construction and operation periods.
In order to ensure compliance with best practices in safety, environmental sustainability, and operational excellence, the project is being developed in cooperation with important industry players, regulators, and technical partners.C
Government politicians, business executives, community leaders, and important partners all attended the groundbreaking event and reaffirmed their support for the project’s successful completion.

Speaking as well, Mr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), stated that the facility would help Nigeria’s shift to a gas-based economy by lowering gas flaring and turning resources into products that can be sold.
By decreasing flaring and converting gas into valuable goods, the plant will help Nigeria make better use of its gas resources, according to Ekpo.
“The construction of this facility will boost industries, improve energy security in the nation, and increase gas supply for power generation,” he stated.
