A mortuary attendant in Edo State was arrested after relatives of a deceased person accused him of removing vital organs from the corpse at Akugbe Mortuary in the Upper Sakponba area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. The discovery reportedly occurred on Friday when family members arriving for the body noticed missing organs and claimed the chest cavity had been emptied and stuffed with nylon. The incident led to a chaotic scene where a mob threatened to lynch the attendant and set the mortuary ablaze. Police confirmed they received a distress call about the attempted mob attack and immediately mobilized the Divisional Police Officer of Ugbekun Division to rescue the suspect. The attendant was safely taken into custody and is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, where the police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the serious allegations. The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, urged the public to remain calm while due process takes its course.
