An attack at Kawel village, Mushere District of Bokkos LGA, Plateau State, resulted in the deaths of at least eighteen farmers and the injuries of numerous more.
Bokkos Youth Leader Christopher Luka told Daily Trust on Monday that the attack happened on Sunday at around 11:30 p.m. The attack happened fewer than five days after Saf Samuel Alaket, the District Head of Gwande in the same Bokkos LGA, was slain in an ambush along the Sha District axis that borders the Daffo hamlet, according to our source.
The deceased encountered the ambush while on his way home from a customary council meeting.
Luka described the attack on Sunday night, saying that a youth council member and his coworker reported it as it happened.
Around 12 a.m., a youth leader said that gunmen had invaded the neighbourhood and shot over 20 people, with 18 confirmed dead, according to Luka.
He went on to say that he reported the situation to security officers stationed in Bokkos as soon as he learned about it.
He stated, “I called security, and they confirmed to me that they had been alerted and were on their way to the attacked community.”
The youth leader urged security authorities to intervene decisively to stop the situation before it becomes worse, characterising the attack as unprovoked.
No security agency has commented on the matter thus far. As of the time of publication, our correspondent has not received a response from either SP Alabo Alfred or Captain Polycarp Auta, the spokespersons for the state police command and Operation Enduring Peace.
