After suffering an ankle ligament damage during their 2-1 Group E victory against the Ivory Coast on Saturday, Germany’s central defender Nico Schlotterbeck will miss the remainder of the World Cup and be sidelined for several months, the team said on Monday.
Antonio Rudiger took Schlotterbeck’s place at halftime after the starting center-back got hurt early in the match. The player had damaged a ligament in his left ankle, according to a scan on Sunday.Schlotterbeck will be out for several months due to an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his left ankle. The German runners-up Borussia Dortmund defender will stay with the club in the USA for the time being, the team confirmed in a statement.
Since the competition has already started, coach Julian Nagelsmann is unable to call up a player to take his place.
