An explosion on Sunday destroyed a building containing three-bedroom flats in the Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State. The incident happened around 4:27 PM in the Temidere Community, Reke, and involved a sudden gas explosion that completely affected the entire three-bedroom building. According to the spokesman for the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, preliminary investigation determined that the cause of the fire and explosion was a gas leak. Firefighters were swiftly deployed to control the blaze and successfully contained the operation, preventing the fire from spreading further within the community. Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of the state fire service, subsequently advised residents to handle gas with strict caution. He emphasized the necessity of regularly inspecting gas cylinders, hoses, and regulators, ensuring proper ventilation, avoiding faulty or expired equipment, and immediately shutting off the gas supply if a leak is suspected. The director concluded by stressing that adhering to fundamental gas safety practices is crucial for preventing such explosions and resulting property damage.
