Senator Adolphus Wabara, a former Senate President, has urged lawmakers to put aside differences in party, ethnicity, and religion and band together to combat the nation’s poor leadership.
In a statement released on Monday to commemorate his 78th birthday, Wabara emphasized that the decisions made by Nigerians in the general elections of 2027 will determine if the nation survives and that incompetent leadership is Nigeria’s worst liability.
He said that successive administrations, especially the ruling All Progressives Congress, had wasted the nation’s vast natural and human resources.In order to save Nigeria from what he described as “economic mismanagement, democratic decline, and worsening insecurity,” the former Senate President, who also serves as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), urged opposition political parties to put aside their differences and create a united front.”Nigeria’s greatest problem is not a lack of resources or talented citizens,” he said, arguing that the country’s fortunes have continuously declined since the APC came to power in 2015. Poor leadership is our biggest issue. The degree of poverty, hunger, unemployment, and instability that exists today shouldn’t be a problem for a country endowed with great riches and exceptional human capital. The elder statesman from Abia also bemoaned the rising expense of living, diminishing purchasing power, increasing unemployment, and the general Nigerian population’s growing sense of despair.Millions of Nigerians are now unable to pay for their basic needs. Families are struggling to make ends meet, businesses are closing, investors are losing faith, and instability is still spreading throughout the nation. “Our founding fathers did not envision this Nigeria,” he remarked.
Without a strong opposition, no democracy can flourish. The advancement of democracy is endangered by attempts to silence, weaken, or intimidate dissenting opinions. Healthy intellectual rivalry, responsibility, and tolerance for opposing viewpoints are all necessary for democracy to thrive.
“Political ego, pointless rivalries, and personal aspirations are not appropriate at this moment. For the sake of the country, the opposition must band together. To save our nation from individuals who view power as an end in and of itself rather than a tool for service, we must assemble a large coalition of patriotic Nigerians.
