Action is urged in flood-prone areas by the Yobe Assembly.

“May I appeal to the House to direct the relevant House committees, especially the House Committees on Environment and Disaster, to conduct the spot assessment and other international partners to address the flood situations in the area?” Hassan Mohamed, speaking on behalf of Yusufari Constituency, asked the House to require the House Committees on Environment and Disaster Management to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in Yusufari during a sitting on Tuesday that was chaired by Speaker Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio and revealed plans to address the town’s ongoing flooding issues.

He also urged the state executive to direct the Yobe Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape to deploy experts to implement flood mitigation measures ahead of the rainy season.

Hassan also urged NGOs involved in disaster risk management and foreign development partners to contribute funds, technical assistance, and capacity building to improve the town’s flood resilience.

Members unanimously supported the motion, highlighting the urgency of prompt and decisive action.

In order to guarantee that Yobe State receives an equitable portion of national environmental interventions, Mashio praised the initiative and emphasized the need of sending the proposal to the Presidential Committee on Environment.

In order to guarantee that the motion is implemented in Yusufari and other flood-prone districts of the state, he urged members to follow up with pertinent parties.
