The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in the November 8 Anambra State election, John Chuma Nwosu, has sworn an affidavit committing to serve only one term if elected.
Nwosu, who hails from Nnewi in Anambra South — the same zone as the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area — said his decision aligns with the state’s unwritten zoning agreement that supports power rotation among the three senatorial zones.
He stated that his single-term pledge was to complete the remaining tenure allotted to the southern zone.
On Thursday, Nwosu visited the High Court in Awka, where he deposed to the affidavit, affirming his commitment to govern for only four years.
The move has been described as courageous and exemplary, reflecting his commitment to transparency, accountability, and selfless leadership.
Speaking after signing the affidavit, Nwosu emphasized that leadership should focus on service, not power retention.
“I came into this race to serve, not to rule. I have publicly made this commitment before and have now legally sealed it in court. Four years is enough to transform Anambra if there is sincerity of purpose,” he said.
