The Labour Party (LP) caucus in the House of Representatives has publicly criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.
The caucus alleges that the APC is prioritizing its preparations for the 2027 re-election campaign over addressing the critical issues of national welfare and citizen security. They condemned this focus as insensitive, lacking conscience, and indicative of questionable leadership.
According to the caucus leader, Afam Victor Ogene, the government’s essential duty is the safety and well-being of the populace. However, the LP expressed shock that while the country faces widespread insecurity, the ruling party is either neglecting the crisis or offering ineffective, superficial remedies.
Furthermore, the statement highlighted that the failure to pay local contractors for completed projects has resulted in economic hardship, halted development, and a lack of new initiatives, leading to sustained protests.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is scheduled to meet on Monday to approve the findings of the Osun State Screening Appeal Committee.
This five-member appeal panel, led by Senator Tolu Odebiyi, reviewed the appeals of seven governorship aspirants who were previously disqualified from the party’s primary election set for December 13.
The seven aspirants appealing their disqualification include Senator Iyiola Omisore, Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), and Babatunde Haketer Oralusi.
Only two aspirants, Hon. Mulikat Adeola Jimoh and Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, had been initially cleared by the screening committee.
The appeal sessions were described as peaceful and constructive. The NWC will receive the committee’s recommendations to finalize the list of candidates.
